From Blank Canvas to Dream Living Room: A Virtual Staging Story
Written by AInteriors Team Published Reviewed
An empty room is a space of pure potential, but it can also be intimidating. Where do you start? What style will work best? We used the same source image to generate three contrasting concepts so their choices—and their limitations—could be compared directly.
The "Before": Our Blank Canvas
Here is the empty room used for the comparison: a simple, well-lit space photographed from one viewpoint. The source remains the reference for assessing every generated version.

Makeover #1: Modern & Minimalist
For our first design, we wanted something clean, sleek, and sophisticated. We gave the AI a simple prompt: "A modern living room with a minimalist aesthetic. Furnish it with a sleek, low-profile grey sofa, a simple black metal coffee table, and a few green plants. Ensure there is plenty of natural light."
The result is a space that feels both stylish and uncluttered. The AI understood the core principles of modern design—clean lines, a neutral color palette, and a focus on form and function.

Makeover #2: The Industrial Vibe
Next, we went for a completely different feel—something with more texture and character. Our prompt was: "An industrial style living room. The main wall should be exposed red brick. Include a worn leather sofa, a coffee table made from reclaimed wood and dark metal, and vintage-style Edison bulb light fixtures."
The generated concept changes the room's personality through rugged textures such as brick and leather, creating a warmer industrial direction. The brick wall is invented rather than documented in the source image.

Makeover #3: Scandinavian Serenity
For our final version, we aimed for comfort, coziness, and simplicity—the heart of Scandinavian design. The prompt was: "A bright and airy Scandinavian living room. Use light wood furniture, a comfortable neutral-colored sofa with cozy throw blankets, and simple, functional decor. Add a few small plants."
This design emphasizes comfort and light. The AI chose light woods and soft textiles to create a space that feels welcoming and peaceful—a perfect embodiment of the Danish concept of *hygge*.
